Rooted in Sustainability
About Us
We have been compost worm farming for over 10 years now and doing trials growing vegetable’s with our organic worm casting leachate (fertiliser).
The company then started a project developing fodder feed systems for livestock growing barley and wheat seed hydroponically. This led Rob mac to do a hydroponics course online with the Academy for distant learning (ADL) UK and got certification for Hydroponics level 4 in 2014.
We were then commissioned to set up and install a fodder feed system in Marsabit County for USAID in 2015 under the company called Northern Lites Ltd.
Composting was the next organic solution to get involved with in 2016 and we have been developing and researching different methods including vermi-composting which we are now selling commercially.
Rob Mac then decided to do a permaculture design course (PDC) with Geoff Lawton online that led to several projects including:
- Small farm permaculture design for Oceans Alive in Vipingo
- Setting up a propagation unit and composting system for greenhouses at Tsavo farm (Tsavo East) for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Fund
- Design and installation of school permaculture project in Lokichoggio (Turkana West). Next door we also set up a community-based farmers association project in regenerative farming methods inclusive of water projects (both water well and borehole ongoing)
- Design and set up of sustainable permaculture garden and greenhouse vermi-composting systems (No. 270 Ololua ridge, Karen) where Iko Lishe has its demo farm and head office.
IkoLishe then started its own Bokashi Bran (BB) produce in late 2022 that is closely linked with their other organic composting products. The company has developed a starter kit for (BB) that treats your kitchen waste, a solution we now call “Kitchen to Kitchen”.
Rob Mac then met Tony Green who is a garden agronomist and now certified in micro-organism analyses. Together they have teamed up to promote these regenerative practices so that Kenyans can learn and improve on their organic growing endeavour’s.
